Lilien Systems' ILM practice covers the four categories that
comprise ILM: Capture, Retain, Manage, and Retrieve --
with the addition of our compliance specialists. Lilien's
ILM solutions capture, retain, manage, and deliver information
according to its business relevance. We bring together our
compliance specialists with the best of our Storage, Server, and
Security practices to provide you with a complete picture.
Not limited to a single discipline or product line, we adjust
our ILM solution to best fit your needs.
We capture your data via:
- Scanners
- Handhelds/PCs
- RFID
- Applications
- Technical workstations
- Digital cameras
- Monitoring devices
Once captured, we help you retain your information by:
- Storing and retrieving
- Archiving (via HP's RISS)
- Migration
- Compliance (via Legato Xtender Solutions, Services)
- Recycling
- Online storage: Arrays and NAS
- Tape storage systems
- Optical storage systems
Once captured and retained, information can then be managed via:
- Backup/recovery
- Replication
- Workflow
- Format conversion
- HP OpenView management solutions
And finally, the information can be delivered for a variety of uses and needs:
- Sharing and distribution
- Formatting
- Presentation
- Printing
- Rich media distribution
- Entertainment
HP's platform for the storage and retrieval of archived e-mail
and all other office information is called HP StorageWorks
Reference Information Storage System (RISS), and addresses the
three biggest reference information challenges: Management,
Security, and Retrievability.
Management
First, reference information needs to be managed, or moved to
the right place. It doesn't belong on application servers, with
expensive enterprise disk arrays where it is consuming your
budget, degrading your response times and extending the backup
window. It belongs on storage designed for reference
information -- storage that is cost-managed, scalable, secure,
and accessible.
RISS automatically migrates older information from operational
data storage to the RISS active archive environment for
long-term storage with accessibility. Well-managed, secure
reference information reduces risk and helps you meet your
compliance objectives.
Security
The HP StorageWorks RISS provides multiple levels of data protection
and security. The whole system is protected by its own firewall
and data received is time-stamped and digitally signed. Next,
the data is recorded, both to a primary and a mirror copy of the
RISS storage. RISS storage behaves as a disk-based WORM media
that prevents modification or deletion of the data during its
retention period. And at the end of the retention period, the
data is securely deleted, and the disk capacity is freed up for
future use.
Finally, should proof of authenticity of content be required,
the RISS is able to provide certified evidence that data has not
been tampered with during its retention period.
Retrievability
But data without accessibility is just digital landfill. HP
RISS enables you to exploit your digital assets by turning data
into information. It does this by indexing reference
information down to the full text level, by providing end users
with intuitive search tools, and by organizing the storage into
a grid computing architecture that gives HP the unique
scalability that allows fast parallel searching of many
billions of reference information data objects. This unique HP
attribute enables you to:
Mitigate risks and assist with compliance, with
- Automated retention of messages and attachments.
- Data that is digitally signed, time-stamped and protected.
- Controlled access to archived data.
Manage costs, by
- Removing static data from application hosts.
- Eradicating duplicate data objects.
Leverage information assets, via
- Full content indexing.
- A storage grid for fast search/retrieval.
- caling to billions of documents.
